PRP Therapy

If getting back in the game as soon as possible following a sports injury is as important to you as it is to most athletes and physically active individuals, you may want to consider speeding up the healing process with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

Benefits of PRP Therapy

This non-surgical, regenerative medicine technique is an effective treatment for soft tissue injuries and lingering pain conditions. It has been embraced by professional athletes for decades and the benefits of therapy include:

  • Rapid pain relief and healing
  • Regeneration of healthy tissues
  • Fewer complications than surgery
  • Less down time
  • No incision or scarring

PRP therapy is based on your body’s natural healing process. When you are injured – for example, a fracture, a wound, or soft tissue damage – your body automatically uses the ensuing inflammation to signal a healing response. The platelets in your blood act as the “first responders” to the injury, activating your body to regenerate new, healthy tissue.

During therapy, a small sample of your own blood is taken and spun in a special centrifuge at high speed to separate a high concentration of platelets. This dose of growth factors is then injected at or near the site of your injury. The normal concentration of platelets in blood is approximately 6%, while a PRP injection is about 95%, leading to a faster healing process.  To read more about PRP therapy and how it can help you, click here!

PRP therapy is a low-risk and non-invasive outpatient procedure that can heal numerous orthopedic and sports injury-related conditions, such as:

  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Cartilage damage
  • Knee injuries
  • Meniscus tears
  • Partial rotator cuff tears
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis elbow
