Graston Technique®
Over the course of their careers, athletes typically sustain multiple injuries and may even undergo surgical procedures. The same may be true of physically active adults. Sometimes, a previous sports injury or surgery can leave behind scar tissue within a joint or muscle. Over time, this scar tissue can lead to inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and disabling pain.
Fortunately, Reagan Integrated Sports Medicine has an effective solution for scar known as Graston Technique. It’s a treatment where your doctor employs the use of a stainless steel instrument to identify and disperse painful scar tissue.
The technique utilizes the instrument, much like a scar tissue stethoscope, designed to glide along your muscles. If muscles are tense or an area of scar tissue is found, your provider will notice a vibration and will then use the instrument to treat the affected area.
It is normal to feel minor discomfort during treatment, but your comfort level will gradually improve. In addition, your provider will have you perform stretches and progressive strengthening exercises at home after the session, which will promote realignment of the connective tissues so that they function like normal, healthy tissue again.
Besides treating scar tissue, Graston Technique is an effective treatment for:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- IT band syndrome
- Plantar fasciitis
- Rotator cuff tear & repair
- Spinal and extremity pain
- Golfer and Tennis elbow
- Tendonitis
