Despite the efficacy of stem cell therapy, you can still suffer from inferior results—due to inaccurate injection placement or low-quality stem cells—if the physician administering it is not properly trained or qualified to perform the procedure. To achieve your desired treatment outcome, your best bet is to receive the treatment from a physician who specializes in regenerative medicine (the science and medical practice of leveraging the body’s own ability to heal and regenerate itself).
At Reagan Integrated Sports Medicine, our team includes a licensed regenerative medicine specialist, Dr. Zann McMahan, who has helped scores of patients in Dallas and the neighboring areas live pain-free and fully functional lives using stem cell therapy and other regenerative medicine approaches. With Dr. McMahan’s extensive training and experience in the field, you can rest assured that you’re in very good hands and you can expect an exceptional treatment outcome.
Let’s learn more about the background of Dr. McMahan and the type of stem cell therapy we use here at Reagan Integrated Sports Medicine.
Getting to Know Dr. Zann McMahan
Dr. Zann McMahan holds a bachelor of science in biology from Oklahoma Christian University and a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program in Oklahoma City.
Dr. McMahan is passionate about helping all patients seeking a better quality of life. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. McMahan is also adept at using other regenerative medicine treatment approaches, such as prolozone therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to treat the vast range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.
Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy
Unlike other practices that use stem cells harvested from the patient’s own fat or bone marrow, Dr. McMahan uses mesenchymal stem cells, which are safely and painlessly obtained from the umbilical cords of newborn babies during scheduled c-section deliveries. The problem with stem cells obtained from your own body is that they are of the same age as you are, and aged stem cells have inferior healing and regenerative capabilities compared to younger ones. This explains why children heal and recover much faster than adults do.
When Dr. McMahan administers mesenchymal stem cells into the injured or diseased area in your body, they immediately begin to harness your body’s healing power and gradually reverse the damage.
The following are some of the common conditions that respond very well to stem cell therapy:
- Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other types of arthritis
- Bone spurs
- Herniated discs
- Ligament, tendon, and cartilage wear
- Muscle strains
- Nerve compression
- Osteoporosis
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Plantar fasciitis
- Sciatica
- Tendonitis
